Part 2 of our coverage of Baby Best’s Nursery covers a little bit of  the Bests’ journey to parenthood. Our thought, prayers and the best of wishes are with them. Read and be inspired!

What was your inspiration for the nursery design and décor?
My all time favorite thing to do is look at pictures of something I love and try to find a less expensive version of it. So when I was trying to figure out how I wanted to decorate I went straight to Restoration Hardware. Everything they have looks amazing but at the same time overly priced. So I found pieces from Restoration Hardware that I had to have and went searching for them. Etsy is great for that! I ended up finding the adorable little safari pictures that were $150+ a piece at Restoration Hardware for just $59.00 for 6.

What drew you to évolur over other nursery brands?
I was searching for a antique color on the crib and dresser. I looked for weeks on Babies R Us and ended up finding the Evolur Crib and Dresser that I chose. I couldn’t beat the price as it was lower than most of the other sets I had looked into and the reviews were great! I love the little details across the crib and dresser. It makes it look like its made for a little boy.

Did the room pose any design challenges?
Yes. As of the moment we are renting the house we are in. So i could not change anything with the color of the walls or the flooring. The hunt was on to find furniture and bedding that went with the colors of the room. The house is very old and has an antique feel to it. The crib and dresser were the perfect colors to match the room. I based all of my decorations around that.

Did you and your spouse agree on style, or did you blend styles and how?
My husband has been extremely supportive in letting me make all the decorating decisions. I always ask him what he thinks about something before I buy it but he normally just tells me I can get whatever my heart desires.

What does this color scheme mean to you?
I really wanted our nursery to have a neutral feel. Somewhere we could go and just feel relaxed and calm. I feel like the room is bright and simple. Just comfortable.

What accessories did you choose and why?
My mother in law bought us the giant Melissa and Doug Giraffe. To me that was a really important part of the nursery to give it that Safari look. She was extremely excited to be able to be apart of the decorating since she lives 15 hours away from us.

I bought 6 safari baby animal pictures from Etsy that I had framed at Michaels. When I was looking for a nursery to match online this was the one piece I could not go without. I just love how they make the room look. I chose seagrass baskets for the hamper and to hold the extra blankets and toys. I did not like any of the colored baskets and I wanted the room to have a more natural look.

I really wanted a huge white fur rug to go across the whole nursery but they were extremely expensive. I ended up finding these smaller white fur rugs at Walmart. I bought two of them and only spent $40

For the baby bedding I really just wanted a plain taupe railing cover and crib skirt. I found them on Bed Bath and Beyonds website and they were Liz and Roo. The sheets i bought from Babies R Us and they have the cutest little safari animals in taupe and tan colors. So they match the room perfectly.

What is your favorite piece or design element in the nursery?
My favorite piece in my nursery would have to be the baby safari animal pictures on the wall above the crib. Before we had those up the room looked extremely plain.

Have you thought of how you will use the nursery pieces down the road and can you tell us?
Luckily the Crib will transfer into a Full size bed. When searching for nursery furniture I really wanted to find things that could be used when my baby boy got old enough to have a grown up room. I ended up getting the railing cover instead of a bumper to try to protect the crib so we could use it later.

Is this your first baby?
Aiden will be our first rainbow baby. Last year we lost our first baby to Trisomy 18.

Something interesting that happened before, during or after the pregnancy?
I would say that me having the first boy in my family in over 23 years is pretty interesting! In my family there is only girls so I just knew we would have a girl. But on my husbands side there’s only boys! All the children and all the grandchildren are all boys!!

Also found out that my husband hates doing home improvement work inside lol our house has plaster walls and it’s so hard to drill anything into them. He broke so many drill bits trying to put up the pictures and curtains. I thought it was hilarious, he however, did not.

Another thing.. my husband is in the Air Force and it’s very very hard to decorate a nursery not knowing if you’ll even been in the same country in 6 months. I know other military wives have that same problem

What one word comes to mind when you step into the nursery?
Calm. Every time I walk into the nursery I just have this calm feeling come over me. Its the best feeling in the world to know that I’m prepared for my baby boy and I have a beautiful nursery to bring him home to.
