2020 was, undoubtedly, the year of the color GRAY. Gender-neutral in its appeal and soothing in nature, gray was a top nursery pick, be it for a boy nursery or a girl nursery. Not that we are surprised. Gray is a remarkably versatile color that can be paired with a variety of hues and shades. The combination of gray and white lends a space a contemporary feel while pops of blue provide a great contrast to gray. One of the most popular pairings we have seen over the last few years is that of gray and pink. Mom Briana Schleicher’s nursery for her baby girl Sarina takes this popular color palette, pairs it with a floral nursery theme, to create a truly charming and calming space. Oversized pink and white floral decals and a plush pink rug near the crib add bursts of color and vibrancy to this nursery.

Mom Briana’s pick, the Julienne Nursery Collection in Cloud from Evolur, complements the neutral color scheme perfectly. An open storage unit that doubles up as a diaper changing area is placed near the crib.  A floral changing pad coupled with soft pink elements gives the nursery a beautiful feminine vibe. A hanger above helps organize little Sarina’s many hairbands (because hey, little girls can never have too many bows and headbands!). The Julienne Tall Chest provides the necessary storage while the Julienne Nightstand is perfect for storing those odds and ends.

By adding customized decor elements, such as the personalized flower hoop with baby Sarina’s birth details, and cute shelves that house soft toys and books, Briana takes a popular nursery theme and color palette and makes it all her own.

What was your inspiration for the nursery design and décor?

My mom had already bought a large peony floral decal that I had wanted since early on in my pregnancy when we found out we were having our second baby girl. That’s why initially, we just wanted to keep the nursery a neutral paint tone and have those be the highlight, which is exactly what we did.

Did the room pose any design challenges?

The room is a little smaller than the one we were going to put her in at our condo we lived in previously, so the only design challenge we faced was eliminating the idea of adding a rocking chair.

Did you and your spouse agree on style, or did you blend styles and how?

My husband knows how much I love to decorate, so he totally left me in charge of the design and lent his handyman skills to hang the shelves, curtain rods, and pictures.

What does this color scheme mean to you?

We wanted a neutral paint tone, and the color, Benjamin Moore Revere Pewter, is the perfect greige. The color is warm and calming and brings a relaxing feel to the room.

What accessories did you choose and why?

  • Star shelves – Amazon,
  • Curtain rod – Target hung on the wall to hang her hats and headbands from (the curtain clips they are hanging on are from Amazon),
  • A wooden sign from Hobby Lobby with the Shakespeare quote, “Though she be but little, she is fierce,”
  • Cloud Island gold polka dot blackout curtains – Target,
  • A sign with her birth stats – Etsy,
  • A pink sheepskin rug – Ross.
  • Her comforter set – Sweet Jojo Designs,
  • A Nanit camera we used with our firstborn when we moved her into her crib.

What is your favorite piece or design element in the nursery?

My favorite design element in the room is the peony decals. They make the nursery pop and add that girly, floral, princess vibe we were going for.

Have you thought of how you will use the nursery pieces down the road, and can you tell us?

The Julienne 5-in-1 Convertible crib transitions into a toddler bed and then a full-size bed, so we’re glad we’ll be able to continue using it down the road.

What one word comes to mind when you step into the nursery?

When I step into her nursery, the word that comes to mind is ‘serene,’ which couldn’t be any more perfect for our little Sarina!

Why did you pick Evolur?

We picked Evolur because of the beautiful designs and the great reviews.

What pieces of furniture do you have from Evolur?

The Julienne Collection – 5 in 1 Convertible Crib, Tall Chest, and Nightstand.
